A Spectral Approach to Yang-mills Theory
Yang–Mills theory in four dimensions is studied by using the Coulomb gauge. The Coulomb gauge Hamiltonian involves integration of matrix elements of an operator P built from the Laplacian and from a first-order differential operator. The operator P is studied from the point of view of spectral theory of pseudo-differential operators on compact Riemannian manifolds, both when self-adjointness ho...
متن کاملSpectral Properties of Yang–mills Theory
Classical Yang–Mills theory in four dimensions is studied by using the Coulomb gauge, as a first step towards considering the mass gap problem in the quantum theory. The Coulomb gauge Hamiltonian involves integration of matrix elements of an operator P which is studied both at perturbative and at non-perturbative level. Upon replacing space-time by a compact Riemannian 4-manifold without bounda...
متن کاملThe String Theory Approach to Generalized 2D Yang-Mills Theory
We calculate the partition function of the SU(N) ( and U(N)) generalized Y M2 theory defined on an arbitrary Riemann surface. The result which is expressed as a sum over irreducible representations generalizes the Rusakov formula for ordinary Y M2 theory. A diagrammatic expansion of the formula enables us to derive a GrossTaylor like stringy description of the model. A sum of 2D string maps is ...
متن کاملHamiltonian approach to Coulomb gauge Yang-Mills Theory
The vacuum wave functional of Coulomb gauge Yang-Mills theory is determined within the vari-ational principle and used to calculate various Green functions and observables. The results show that heavy quarks are confined by a linearly rising potential and gluons cannot propagate over large distances. The 't Hooft loop shows a perimeter law and thus also indicates confinement.
متن کاملHamiltonian approach to Yang-Mills theory in Coulomb gauge
Recent results obtained within the Hamiltonian approach to continuum Yang-Mills theory in Coulomb gauge are reviewed. INTRODUCTION There have been many attempts in the past to solve the Yang-Mills Schrödinger equation using gauge invariant wave functionals. Unfortunately, all these approaches have not been blessed with much success2. The reason is that it is extremely difficult to work with gau...
